Easter Sees A Cracking Start For Soccer Schools

Easter saw the launch of a new network of Soccer Schools to boys and girls aged 5-14 in Letchworth, Hertford, Ware and Welwyn Garden City, that will be delivered every school holiday with over 150 children attended over the first two weeks, across all four sites.

Soccer Schools provide children with the opportunity to learn the games key skills through fun games and activities, as well as Individual Ball Mastery, Small Sided Games, Inflatable Challenge in a fun and friendly environment by the Foundation's FA Qualified and DBS checked football coaches.

Ozzie Willis who coordinates the Soccer Schools says “Soccer Schools has been a very positive journey for us so far. The support we have had from schools with promotion has been fantastic, and our partner venues have been very supportive with helping us to get the programme off the ground. We had a real positive mix of boys and girls and all abilities throughout Easter, and we are already looking forward to taking bookings for our May half-term programme.”

Girls Development Programme Launched

Stevenage FC Foundation have teamed up with Stevenage Ladies FC to deliver a full-time Football & Education development programme for the next generation of talented female sports professionals in partnership with Marriotts School, Stevenage.

This programme for girls currently in Year 11, combines exceptional, academy style coaching, with high-level football with a range of academic studies. By joining our programme, you can choose to study a wide range of courses including A-Levels or BTECs. All students will be given the support to develop as players with a view to gaining a trial with Stevenage Ladies FC as well as gaining qualifications needed to secure employment within the sports industry, such as The FA Level 1 coaching certificate.

Students will study and train at Marriotts School in Stevenage in their newly refurbished school site that provides some of the best sports facilities in the area. Students would have access to a minimum 8 hours a week coaching from UEFA B qualified Stevenage FC Foundation staff as well as qualified physiotherapists to support their physical development, whilst enrolled on the programme.

Lead Project Officer, Dani Burge said

“It’s exciting to be launching the next phases of our Women & Girls football development structure, after the recent launch of the FA SSE Wildcats Girls Football Centres. With Stevenage Ladies looking towards their third consecutive season in the FA Women’s Premier League (FAWPL), it makes sense to create a pathway that allows young aspiring female footballers with the chance to study A-Levels or BTECs at Marriotts School as well represent Stevenage FC in a nationally recognised competition.”

Stevenage Ladies Chairman, Dave Potter said

“In recent years, the Ladies setup has gone from strength to strength with the first team now a recognised FA Women’s Premier League side. We’ve seen back to back Hertfordshire FA Women’s County Cup titles, the reserve side are set to take the league title this season and adding the Girls Development Programme to this shows how far we’ve come as a club and we can start to create a clear pathway for girls that want to play FAWPL football in the future”.

The first round of trials for the programme are being held at Marriotts School on Saturday 12th May (2-4pm). To sign up for the trial, apply for the programme or simply find out more visit www.stevenagefcfoundation.com/gdp
