Wycombe Wanderers Sport & Education Trust hosted our Walking Footballers on the last day of the EFL League 2 season. Our squad of 9 over 60's, compromising of Andrew Luckins, Terry Sage, Dave Smith, Clive King, Mark Adams, Graham Parry, Tony Sams, Richard Cole and Steve Bridger, were treated to a game at Buckinghamshire College, Flaxwell Heath and were then invited to Adams Park, the home of Wycombe Wanderers, for a light lunch and the opportunity to see Stevenage FC take on Wycombe Wanderers in what was the final game for both sides this season.

David Smith, a Walking Football regular who attended the fixture, put together the following match report:

We played four games of twelve minutes, and did very well to adapt to the different surroundings and goal size, all games were played in a great spirit.

Match One We started slowly, and were soon two goals down, Wycombe are a good passing side, and have played together frequently. Towards the end of the game we began to adapt to the conditions, and we slowly got back into the game, and began to take control of the ball. Result 2-0

Match Two We improved slowly, and this game was very even, with both sides passing the ball. Our defensive duties were still at times lacking, and required Terry Sage to come the rescue. Result 0-0

Match Three Our improvement continued, defensive duties were much better, and we got on top right from the start, we scored with the best move of the day, slick first time passing and a good finish. Some excellent saves from Terry helped.  Result 0-1 Stevenage.

Match Four. Fitness and injuries finally told in this game, although everyone put in a great effort. Again Terry put in a fine display, before being substituted. However we succumbed to two goals as every one began to tire. Result 0-2 Wycombe

Overall the team played well considering most had never played together. Despite the weather being extremely hot, the team put up a good show

Man of the day Terry Sage, very good shot stopper, he had a great day.

On behalf of everyone at Stevenage FC Foundation, we would like to thank all of our Walking Footballers for their efforts on the day and for the fantastic feedback we have had back from Wycombe Wanderers SET. We look forward to inviting Wycombe over one weekend next season.
