Stevenage FC Foundation have teamed up with Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, YMCA, Greenwich Leisure Limited, YC Hertfordshire, Hertfordshire FA and Herts Constabulary to bring Premier League Kicks to Welwyn Garden City.

The weekly football sessions will launch on Friday 27th July at Gosling Sports Park on Stanborough Road in Welwyn GC at 8pm, running till 10pm every night through the summer (until 21st September) for boys and girls aged 14-17.

For just £1 per player per week, young people in the area can access two hours of football as well as support from project partners such as YMCA and YC Hertfordshire ranging from mental health, exam stress, drug awareness, managing money, sexual health, bullying and more.

Young people attending the session will also have the chance to follow in the footsteps of the Marriotts Kicks session, by representing Stevenage FC at regional and national Premier Kicks festivals and competitions across the country. As well as the chance to gain coaching and refereeing qualifications with Hertfordshire FA and volunteering opportunities on other Stevenage FC Foundation projects.

Foundation Community Engagement Manager, Ozzie Willis, said:

We're delighted to be working with such a great network of partners to bring Premier League Kicks to Welwyn Hatfield. We've seen over 450 young people engage our other Kicks sessions this past year and to expand that into a new area and extend that opportunity is something we're delighted to be leading on.

Kicks is one of the Premier League's flagship community programmes and one of its main objectives is to support young people to progress into positive pathways. From working with the council we understand there is a spike in anti-social behaviour on a Friday night and through Kicks we are looking to create something that young people in the area can feel a part of and give them access to support to make those positive choices.

We can't wait to get started and look forward to what the next few months will bring.
