The Foundation's Summer 2017 NCS programme is currently well underway, with 56 young people experiencing the summer of a lifetime as part of the Governments' initiative to give 15-17 year olds the chance to embark on new challenges, meet new people and develop new skills for work and life.

Since 2012, the Foundation has helped 560 young people take part in NCS, as a local delivery partner to the NCS Trust.

One young person that took part in the programme in 2015 has recently been recognised by the programme as a success story and "Graduate of the Month".

Foundation coach, Luke Wilkins completed NCS in 2015 before beginning an apprenticeship with the Charity during the 2015-16 season. Since then, Luke has gone on to become a full-time member of staff with the Foundation and is out delivering education programmes in local primary schools, community programmes to people of all ages on a weekly basis, as well as continuing to support the NCS programme as a Team Leader.

Luke says:

I found my NCS experience incredibly positive and everything I learnt on the programme I still use in my everyday life. NCS taught me how to be confident in interview style situations and gave me the confidence to speak in front of large numbers of people.

It is this reason that Luke is still part of Stevenage FC and NCS today!

I would say to any young person thinking of doing NCS to grab the opportunity! It will be one of the best experiences of your life. The activities and workshops that you’ll experience within the programme will help set you up in your future, such as job interviews, group speaking and teamwork skills. NCS has given me the tools I need to help push forward in my career.

Project Officer, Dani Burge said:

We are really proud of what Luke has achieved with us at the Foundation since he first arrived for NCS back in 2015 and it is great to see him get the recognition he deserves.

Head of Foundation, Joe Goude added:

Luke continues a trend of young people who have joined us as apprentices after taking part in NCS and gone on to earn full-time jobs and it is great to see him recognised. Dani (who manages Luke), has come on the same journey as Luke and is now running the NCS programme for the Foundation with the support of Luke. We are very fortunate to have two talented young people working on a programme, that is all about new experiences, that have lived it themselves.
