This has been an eventful year for me in particular and the Foundation. The Foundation now employs fifteen members of staff as well as a pool of casual coaches that have collectively delivered nearly 3,000 hours’ worth of coaching and support into our local community.

Having joined the Foundation in January this year myself it has been a real learning curve, understanding everything that Stevenage FC and the Foundation (as its official charity) delivers on a day to day basis. Meeting after meeting and discussion after discussion with different departments and different individuals has shown me that this is a football club that delivers so much more than people realise and wants to be the very best, not for themselves but for the town they all represent.

For the Foundation this couldn’t be truer either. We have a young workforce with an average age of just 24, all of whom are passionate about football and sport but more importantly are passionate about ensuring that we offer opportunities for people, of any age, to get the chance to realise their potential in a sporting and educational context.

Our values, vision and mission as a charity are all about People & Potential whether that be an Active Maths lesson with a Year 3 class at Roebuck School, a Walking Football session at the Academy for over 50’s or one of our NCS programmes for teenagers. It is all about helping these people achieve what they want to achieve and live a happy and healthy life.

In my opinion one of the key steps to helping people achieve more is making them aware of the opportunities that are available to them. In 2017 we are launching a new website to help do this. I hope this website will become a platform to help raise this awareness and a bookmark on every fans’ phone and computer.

It’s my belief that not enough people are aware of the Foundation or that we are a registered charity that works in partnership with Stevenage Football Club to improve the community we work in and this simply needs to change. I’m hopeful the information we put out going forward will do this.

We have a fantastic team of staff at the Foundation that has evolved in the last twelve months to take us in a new direction and I’m confident that this team will continue to grow and develop and show their own true potential in 2017.

The Foundation is all about people and potential but in order for the Foundation to really kick on we are keen to build new partnerships too. This has already begun with the likes of Face Communications, GCIS IT, KitAid, Stefanou Foundation, Hertfordshire FA, Stevenage Borough Council, Herts Sports Partnership and more all working with us across a number of areas.

If you or your organisation would like to be a part of our journey, then please get in touch with me via [email protected]

Finally, I’d like to thank the trustees at the Foundation who are a massive support to myself and the team and all give up their time outside of their day to day lives to give something back to the community. Roger Gochin (Chair), Mark Hubbocks, Phil Wallace, Aidan Sanderson, Carol Ashby and Steve McQueen, from all the staff…thank you!

Here’s to a 2017 full of potential!
