News and Stories Blog 1st September - Cambridge Back To School With the summer holidays now officially over, we turn our attention to our 30+ partner schools that we’ll be working with over the next year to get children more active and using sport to help them tackle key subjects like numeracy and literacy. We have a variety of ways schools and your child can get involved. Our most popular activity is our After-School Clubs, delivered at a range of primary schools for just £3.50 per child per week for an hour of sport (not just football!) and physical activity to keep your child healthy and active. Starting from October, with trials in late September, sessions will run weekly throughout the season and the development centre will be located at Stevenage FC Academy in Shephalbury on Monday (7-8pm) and Tuesday (8-9pm) nights for girls aged 9 to 16 years old. Coached by FA and UEFA Qualified coaches the centre is tailored to give players the best opportunity to progress technically as a footballer and to help them develop socially and psychologically. The centre is a supplementary training and games programme and will complement girls' existing grassroots football commitments. Our Girls Development Centres allow all players to play for any club side locally as all games against other professional clubs take place in the school holidays. The sessions are player centred and revolve around technical and game-based scenarios with the emphasis on enjoyment, development and performance. Girls involved in the centre that are not currently signed to clubs will be supported by the Foundation, working with Hertfordshire FA, to find local grassroots football that meets their needs. Project Officer, Dani Burge says “We're delighted to be able to launch the new Girls Development Centre programme. It's been something that we've been looking to establish locally for a long time now, so it is great to finally announce this new initiative. There is a thriving grassroots girls’ game in Hertfordshire with over 3,800 girls taking part each week in 130 girls’ teams up and down the county. “We would not be able to offer an opportunity like this without that incredible work. The county also has fantastic elite role models in Arsenal Women and Watford Ladies towards the top of the women's pyramid. With our Girls Development Programme now also available for girls post 16 and our Development Centre we are creating a pathway locally in Stevenage and into Stevenage Ladies FC in The FA Women's National League (South East Division 1). “By doing this we hope to develop future players for the first and reserve teams and bridge the gap for young female footballers.” Key Information U10s & U12s Date: Starts Monday 1st October Time: 7pm - 8pm Coaches: Luke Wilkins & Dani Burge U14s & U16s Date: Starts Tuesday 2nd October Time: 8pm - 9pm Coaches: Vicky Farleigh & Dani Burge Trials are taking place on Monday 24th (U10s & U12s) and Tuesday 25th (U14s & U16s) September at Stevenage FC Academy.
