Walking Football – Free Taster Sessions

The last 6 months has seen some encouraging developments within our Walking Football programme at the Foundation. With 5 sessions currently being delivered, enquiries are coming in on a weekly basis from older men and women wanting to know more about the game and how they can get involved.

The great thing about Walking Football is that no experience is required and all abilities are welcome. It’s a great way to get fit, improve your health, rehabilitate injuries, and the social aspect is huge in that there is plenty of fun to be had both on and off the pitch where lots of groups will stick around for coffees and meet up outside of their weekly football sessions.

We offer free taster sessions for anyone wishing to give it a go. Tie up those laces, get your football career back on track, and walk yourself fit.

Ozzie Willis who coordinates our Walking Football programme said: “Its exciting times for Walking Football, people are playing for the first time in their life and others are playing again after hanging up their boots for 30-40 years. It’s incredible to hear about the impact its having on so many people. It really is for anyone, and I would encourage both and men and women to try it out.”

Walking Football sessions are currently at the following locations & times:

  • Shephalbury Academy, Monday 8-9m & Wednesday 10-11am
  • Welwyn Garden City Football Club, Tuesday 10-11am
  • Hartham 3G Astro, Hertford, Thursday 10-11am
  • Hatfield University Sports Village, De Havilland Campus, Thursday 12.15-1pm

SFCF Enter Hertfordshire FA Futsal Fives League

Stevenage FC Foundation have entered two teams into the Hertfordshire FA Futsal Fives League at Noble School on a Wednesday night. The County FA approached us last year, and as soon as it was put forward towards a targeted group of Premier League Kicks programme, the uptake was instant.

Futsal Fives Leagues in Hertfordshire was established in 2011 by Hertfordshire FA and now has over 3 competitive Leagues for players aged 16 years and above. This season alongside the league competition Hertfordshire FA have introduced a shield competition into our Stevenage Futsal League that runs out of Nobel School on a Wednesday Night.

Wednesday 7th February saw both of our teams (Reds & Whites) enter the league and come head to head with a narrow 7-5 victory to the Stevenage FC Foundation Reds.  A new experience for some of our players, many of whom had never even kicked a futsal before. Both teams will now continue to battle it out over the next 12 weeks with the support from the Foundation.

Kieron Fox, Football Development Officer at Hertfordshire FA said

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with Stevenage FC Foundation & their Premier League Kicks programme providing a clear player pathway within their existing programmes & to also help retain young adults to continue playing football or transition them back into the game they fell in love with
